Chess Studio on the Hill - Fall Syllabus

Below is the working syllabus for the fall trimester of Chess Studio on the Hill. This is the scheduled program of events; however, changes may be made at the discretion of Chess Corps for enrichment purposes. Changes will be posted on this page and may be made without advanced notice.

October 22

2:30-4:30 PM	Open House & Registration Welcome to Chess Corps Simultaneous Faculty/Student Play Getting Acquainted Chess Education Needs Assessment
4:30-5:00 PM	Review and analysis of games played in simultaneous faculty/student play. Faculty Lecture led by IM Satea Husari “Instructive Positions from Member’s Games”
5:00- 6:30 PM	Open Chess Play: Brain Games, Chess Kiosk, and Learning Activities including our own "Tic Tac Corner" (Faculty Supervised)

October 29

2:30-3:30 PM	Registration (Ongoing) Open Chess Play (Faculty Supervised)
3:30-5:00 PM	Resident Lecture Series “Lecture I: Contrast in Styles—The Two Greatest Players in Chess History: Bobby Fischer and Gary Kasparov.” Followed by a Question & Answer period
5:00- 6:30 PM	Open Chess Play: Brain Games, Chess Kiosk, and Learning Activities including our own “Tic Tac Corner.” (Faculty Supervised)

November 5

2:30-3:30 PM	Registration (Ongoing) Open Chess Play (Faculty Supervised)
3:30-5:00 PM	Members Only Chess Corps Training Tournament, Class A [1200+] and Class B [1200-]
5:00- 6:30 PM	Review and Analysis of Tournament games Open Forum: IM Satea Husari & Chess Corps Faculty

November 12

1:00-4:00 PM

TRAVEL CLUB Round I
Ice Cream Chess Studio at Surreal Image Café Sandwich Shop & Art Gallery
Play chess and enjoy the sights.
Bughouse will be permitted.
Public Exhibition play by Chess Corps faculty.
Refreshments provided to members by Chess Corps.
Level 1, Atrium Mall, Chestnut Hill, MA
Free parking in garage under the mall.

November 19

1:00-4:00 PM

TRAVEL CLUB Round II

5:00- 6:30 PM	Open Chess Play: Brain Games, Chess Kiosk, and Learning Activities including our own “Tic Tac Corner.” (Faculty Supervised)

December 3

2:30-3:30 PM	Open Chess Play (Faculty Supervised)
3:30-5:00 PM	Members Only Three [3] Rounds, Game 15 [minutes] Open Training Tournament Sections A & B.
5:00- 6:30 PM	Open Chess Play Learning Activities for members who finish tournament early

December 10

2:30-3:30 PM	Open Chess Play (Faculty Supervised)
3:30-5:00 PM	Run the Chess Corps Steeple Chase- Solving Tactics at all levels
5:00- 6:30 PM	Open Chess Play: Brain Games, Chess Kiosk, and Learning Activities including our own “Tic Tac Corner.” (Faculty Supervised)

December 17

2:30-3:30 PM	Open Chess Play (Faculty Supervised)
3:30-5:00 PM	Special Guest Presentation by three-time US Champion and Grandmaster Larry Christiansen. (tentative) Followed by a Question and Answer period.
5:00- 6:30 PM	Open Chess Play: Brain Games, Chess Kiosk, and Learning Activities. Trimester-end party

Refreshments will be offered midway through each session.
