Chess Studio on the Hill - Winter Syllabus

Below is the working syllabus for the winter trimester of Chess Studio on the Hill. This is the scheduled program of events; however, changes may be made at the discretion of Chess Corps for enrichment purposes. Changes will be posted on this page and may be made without advanced notice.

NB: Students may enroll in the 2006- 2007 season of Chess Studio on the Hill anytime between October 22, 2006 and March 25, 2007.

February 18

Travel Club

Chess Studio Travel Club will meet for a special event in the McKim Conference Room of the Boston Public Library from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Join the Chess Studio Travel Club as we receive a special tour of the historic Boston Public Library and visit the library's chess section. The tour will provide an introduction to the library's history and architecture and the spirit of volunteerism in Massachusetts.

Following the library tour, Chess Studio Travel Club will meet at the Fairmont Copley Plaza for a tour of the original site of the Museum of Fine Arts. At the conclusion of the afternoon, join us for afternoon tea in the Oak Room hosted by Chess Corps for its members.

March 11


On March 11, Chess Studio on the Hill will be joined by special guests from Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters for an afternoon of learning and creativity, which will include:

- A special guest lecture given by Albert Yeh, former President of the Harvard Chess Club, and

- Beginner juggling instruction led by skilled juggler, Barton Kunstler, Ph.D., Lesley University Professor of Management and author of "The Hothouse Effect."

 

** At each session from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM, Chess Corps faculty and volunteers will offer “Chess Basics” during which they will teach the rules of chess at the beginner level to any interested family members, friends, or visitors. This service is free and you do not need to be a Chess Corps member to participate.

Refreshments will be offered midway through each session.
