Dana Farber Cancer Center

The Chess Corps program at the Dana Farber Cancer Center serves both children and adults who are undergoing cancer treatment. Through the use of chess as recreational therapy, outpatients from across New England receive private instruction and exciting opportunities for

play at the hospital while simultaneously providing opportunities for carefree, recreational pleasure during the often stressful times of treatment.

Veterans Administration Hospital

The Veterans Administration Hospital is a major rehabilitation center for veterans who have sacrificed for our country. Chess Corps believes in giving back to these men and women of our armed services through its program in chess recreation therapy. Chess Corps particularly focuses on work in the spinal cord injury unit of the hospital. Chess Corps professionals work with patients, nursing, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy staff to provide a unique rehabilitative experience for the recovering veterans. The West Roxbury facility is equipped with two magnificent recreation rooms, and Chess Corps teachers provide one–on-one bedside instruction for patients.

If you are veteran interested in playing chess during your visits to Boston or you wish to establish a chess teaching program in your local community through the interactive chess teaching/playing web site (under construction) please email us at info@chesscorps.org.
